Me, in my favorite place in the world: Antarctica.

My name is Susan Rigetti, though you might know me by my maiden name (Susan Fowler). I’m a novelist, journalist, screenwriter, and the author of three books (the software architecture guide Production-Ready Microservices, the critically-acclaimed memoir Whistleblower, and the novel Cover Story).

In the world of journalism, I’ve worked as an editor at Slate, was the technology op-ed editor at The New York Times (where I also founded and ran the Op-Eds From the Future series), and was the founding editor in chief of Increment at Stripe (which Kara Swisher dubbed "The New Yorker for geeks"). Once upon a time, I worked as a software engineer at various companies in Silicon Valley. I studied physics and philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania, where I also worked in the experimental high energy physics group on particle detector hardware and software and was a member of the ATLAS Experiment.

In 2017, I wrote a now-infamous blog post about my experience as a software engineer at Uber. As one of the “Silence Breakers,” I was TIME's Person of the Year. The Financial Times also chose me as their Person of the Year in 2017. In 2018, I was awarded a Webby for Person of the Year. I've been profiled in The New York Times, TIME, and more, and have appeared on the cover of Politico magazine, the cover of TIME magazine, as well as on lots of lists, including: The Recode 100, Vanity Fair's New Establishment List, The Politico 50, Fortune's 40 Under 40, Marie Claire's New Guard List, the Bloomberg 50, the Upstart 50, and more. I have written for The New York Times, TIME Magazine, Slate, Vanity Fair, and have been an editor at PhilPapers for nearly a decade.

Whenever I’m not writing or editing, I’m usually reading, playing the violin, dancing, riding horses, trying to learn a new language, studying some random academic subject, or throwing myself into whatever new thing I’m obsessing over. I live in LA with my husband Chad and our two kids.
